Dècor Story
The story of the restoration of Amger manifests itself as you walk through the beautifully designed spaces, with every detail from the African teakwood furniture with natural polish to the custom-made lights crafted out of eco-friendly materials like wicker, ceramic and mul fabric adding to the luxurious easy breezy feel. The inward-looking small windows of the Portuguese villa have been replaced by nine-foot windows to seamlessly connect the indoors with the outdoors, endowing the space with lots of natural light. Huge arched windows and doors, indoor plants and the use of tumbled stone flooring in the walkways, gazebo and common indoor areas complete this connection. The owners Arun and Alok Lalwani; design architect Supriya Gandhi of the Workshop Architects; and conservation architect Nachinolkar Ketak worked collaboratively to realise the vision of the villa. Old- world details like the Juliet balconies, two wells and rose windows were restored and enhanced and the original roofing was meticulously restored using the crocodile bark tree and Mangalore tiles. The unique aesthetics and relaxing vibe that the space exudes makes for a memorable holiday.
